The High Peak Diabetes group try to make it easier to understand and treat.
Type 2 (late onset or Non-insulin dependent diabetes) most frequently presents itself in older people. The pancreas functions poorly. These individuals may be treated by diet alone, tablets or even insulin, (but that does NOT mean that they are insulin dependent).
When Type 2 occurs in young children and adolescents, it is known as Mature Inset Diabetes of the Young – MODY.
New research has identified another subgroup which is also known as Type 3 or Brain diabetes.
